Ford’s Truck App Helps Drivers With Proper Trailer Connection.

Available solely on F-Series pickups with Ford’s 4.2-inch LCD instrument cluster screen—another class exclusive for the Blue Oval—the Truck App can lead drivers through all the steps necessary for a proper trailer connection in a simple, informative manner. The App’s checklist includes the following prompts:

  • Ball coupler connected and locked?
  • Tongue jack raised?
  • Mirrors adjusted?
  • Electrical wiring connected?
  • Lights functioning correctly (running lights, left/right turn and brake lights)?
  • Trailer Brake Controller gain setting adjusted?
  • Wheel chocks removed?
  • Safety chains connected?

In addition, the system can be configured to organize, track and store key information about accumulated mileage and other measures for up to 10 different trailers, making it ideal for drivers who are pulling multiple load-carriers.

“Go Do Adventures” Campaign Kicks Off!

2011-Ford-Explorer-image1-e1303486846784

Ford’s “Go Do Adventures” Campaign kicks off encouraging Ford customers to submit essays, photos and videos of these adventures through Fords’s official Facebook page.

The first websiode in this campaign features a California family driving the Ford Explorer to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. This video shows the Asdel family taking the Explorer from the paved highways on the island all the way to the dirt roads leading to the secluded beach during their once-in-a-lifetime Hawaiian adventure.

“This particular entry provided us with a way to really show consumers what Go Do Adventures is all about – especially with the background being Hawaii,” said Kevin Schebil, Ford experiential marketing manager. “It seemed compelling as a celebration for the family and as a way to show the back-road, adventurous nature of the new Explorer.”

New episodes will run through the end of the year and will build on the “Go, Do” mantra created for the new Explorer. Ford will also rely on Facebook during this campaign to engage consumers. In the last 30 days alone, more than 60,000 people have visited the wall on the Explorer Facebook page and more than 46,000 have visited the Go Do Adventures Facebook page.

Ford SYNC 911 Assist Is Free

Ford Sync 911 assist is free.  Drivers don’t pay monthly or renewal fees.

“By cutting out the middleman, Ford SYNC 911 Assist users don’t have to worry about wasted time that could mean the difference between life and death,” said David Hatton, global product leader/electrical engineer with Ford Connected Services. “Instead, they can drive knowing that they have a system available without having to worry about the status of some kind of emergency service subscription that expires.”

SYNC 911 Assist was first introduced in 2009 and remains the industry’s only vehicle-based, no-cost, non-subscription call-for-help system. It’s currently available on all SYNC-equipped 2011 vehicles, including Ford Explorer, Taurus, Focus, Flex, Fusion, Escape and F-150, as well as Lincoln MKS, MKZ and MKT.

“Since SYNC 911 Assist was launched, we have heard many remarkable stories about how the technology has made a difference for people in their time of need,” added Hatton. “It is very rewarding to work on a product that can provide assistance for millions when needed.”

The Ford Ranger can wade through water!

RangerWaterWading2-e1302110760623

The Ford Ranger can do many things and now it can wade through 800 mm of water!

“When we go through the water bath, we’re looking out for every possible functional failure in the vehicle. The most critical one would be if water was sucked through the air intake into the engine, resulting in hydro-lock, which can bend the piston’s connecting rods and potentially destroy the entire engine,” said Tom Dohrmann, the development engineer in charge of Ranger’s water management.

To traverse deep water, Ford engineers made sure that water couldn’t be easily sucked into the engine. That’s why the Ranger’s air intake is mounted high in the engine compartment.  The alternator was also moved high, to protect the component from dust, stones, and other road debris that could be kicked up when the truck ventures off the beaten path.

Unfortunately, the new Ranger isn’t expected in the U.S. any time soon.

As law-enforcement agencies across the country prepare for the introduction of the all-new Ford Police Interceptor sedan and SUV, the automaker has rolled out a new series of action-packed YouTube webisodes that show the competition—and potential criminals—just what they’ll be up against.

“We set out to develop our new Police Interceptors to not only meet the current leader—our own Crown Victoria—but to exceed it and the competition,” said Lisa Teed, Ford Police Interceptor marketing manager. “As we prepare for one of the biggest launches in our history of developing police vehicles, we’re committed to remaining the nation’s largest provider. These videos prove our new vehicles are purpose-built, capable, and deliver the safety, technology and performance officers need to excel at their jobs.”

All-New Ford Police Interceptors: Performance And Fuel Economy

PoliceInterceptCon_01-e1301411557406

These police cruisers will be on the streets in 2012.

Ford’s all-new Police Interceptor sedan is specially designed to meet the needs of law enforcement. It’s roomy, rugged, and offers strong performance thanks to a potent 280 horsepower engine under the hood. But what will really sway consumers is the fact that these new Police Intercepts could save America’s law enforcement agencies millions of dollars a year on fuel costs.

The Blue Oval’s latest Police Interceptor, which is taking over for the today’s Crown Victoria police car, will deliver at least 20 percent higher fuel economy, which is expected to dramatically reduce fuel costs for cities.

For example, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department alone – the largest sheriff’s department in the world – operates a fleet of 6,200 vehicles that patrol an area the size of Connecticut. Last year, those vehicles drove a staggering 27 million miles. A fleet-wide 20 percent fuel economy gain would save the department at least $20 million per year, based on today’s fuel prices of nearly $4 per gallon.
