A look at Ford’s first electric car the Comuta

The Ford Comuta was the first electric car that was introduced almost 45 years ago.  Only two are in existence with one of them being displayed at the London Science Museum. The Comuta measured just 6 feet 8 inches long and was powered by four 12-volt lead-acid batteries. It was capable of reaching a top speed of 40 miles per hour and it had a range of about 40 miles. “We expect electric cars to be commercially feasible within the next 10 years, although we believe their uses will be primarily as city-center delivery vans and suburban shopping cars,” said Ford of Britain’s assistant managing director, Leonard Crossland. Ford Focus Electric Goes Wireless With AT&T

Ford has teamed up with AT&T to give owners of Ford’s upcoming electric vehicles the ability to remotely monitor, engage and control vehicle settings via information collected over the AT&T Wireless Network. Thanks to a wireless connection, vehicle owners will be able to control their vehicles even when they’re away from the car. Ford believes that greater wireless control is essential in making electric car ownership simple, easy and engaging.
